Standoff Insulators are designed from a fiberglass-reinforced thermo-set polyester, which is a bonded material that offers a higher moisture and heat tolerance compared to that of plastic insulators. Additionally, standoffs offer excellent mechanical strength for allowing electrical installers to raise close height tolerances compared to that of porcelain insulators. They are flame retardant and offer high arc resistance, track resistance, and shatter resistance as well.

Red Seal distributes the entire line of Mar-Bal and Glastic Standoff Insulators. Mar-Bal, Inc. is one of the largest manufacturers of BMC molded standoffs in the North American region.

Standoff Insulators Applications:

  • There are various applications for standoff insulators.

  • Their primary use is for maintaining equipment’s operational capacity. The insulators’ high electrical resistance helps stop the unintentional flow of current from a conductor and surrounding materials. This effectively lowers the change for power damage and wasted energy.

  • Standoffs are most commonly used to regulate currents in conductors and conductive components for switchgears and transformers. As a result of vast physical separation between the component and the insulator, standoffs typically control the high-level voltage and considerably lower the likelihood of an inter-component shortage.
